Introducing the Egnyte Context Layer: Give AI the Business Context to Get Work Done

AI is getting better at reasoning, creating, and taking action. But there’s still a fundamental problem standing between AI and real business impact: AI doesn’t inherently understand how your business works.

Whether you’re using an AI assistant, agent, or workflow, the system first needs to determine what information matters and assemble enough context to do the job. Without a persistent business context foundation, work repeats across requests, making AI less accurate, less efficient, and more expensive to run at scale.

Today, we’re introducing the Egnyte Context Layer, a business context foundation that gives AI a deeper understanding of how your organization works.

The Context Layer maps the relationships across your content, people, projects, business systems, activity, and industry knowledge, then assembles the specific context needed for the job at hand. Instead of making AI reconstruct that understanding with every request, Egnyte gives it the right context from the start.

The result is AI that delivers more relevant and accurate results, gets work done faster with fewer unnecessary retrieval steps, and operates more cost-effectively as organizations scale their use of AI.

Great AI understands your business

Enterprise AI has largely focused on models: bigger, faster, more specialized models. But as those models become increasingly accessible, the differentiator shifts.

What matters is what the AI understands about your business.

A project isn't just a collection of files. It has owners, teams, deadlines, deliverables, customers, contracts, conversations, decisions, and history. A document isn't simply text. Its meaning comes from what it represents, who created it, which project or client it belongs to, what came before it, and what rules govern its use.

That understanding is business context.

Egnyte already sits at the center of your organization's most important work and content. The Context Layer builds on that foundation by connecting content to the people, projects, permissions, business systems, and industry knowledge that give it meaning.

Critically, context isn't one enormous static map handed to every AI interaction. Egnyte assembles the context that matters for the specific job being performed.

An agent reviewing a contract needs different context than an agent preparing a project proposal, just like a financial-services workflow needs different context than a construction workflow.

By giving AI the context relevant to its task, Egnyte can improve accuracy while reducing unnecessary searches, retrieval, and processing that can drive up AI costs.

From everyday work to business context

The real power of the Context Layer comes from the content, activity, and decisions already happening across your organization.

Collaborate. Teams create, share, review, and work with content in Egnyte. Projects move forward. Documents change. People contribute. Decisions get made. That work creates a governed foundation of business information.

Understand. Egnyte connects that content with the people, projects, permissions, metadata, business systems, activity, and industry knowledge surrounding it. Individual pieces of content become connected business knowledge that AI can reason across.

Automate. With trusted business context in place, AI can do more than answer questions. It can analyze information, extract details, draft deliverables, recommend next steps, and power agents and workflows designed to do specific jobs.

Evolve. As work continues, new content, relationships, activity, approvals, and business decisions enrich the context available to AI. That gives future AI experiences, automations, and agents a richer and more current understanding to work from.

It becomes a continuous cycle: the work your teams do creates context, and better context makes AI more useful to the work your teams do next.

Bringing the Context Layer to life in AEC

Architecture, engineering, and construction provides a powerful example of why context matters.

AEC firms manage enormous volumes of interconnected project information across drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, contracts, proposals, project systems, and years of historical work.

Finding a document is useful. Understanding what that document means within the context of the project is far more powerful.

New Egnyte capabilities are helping make that possible.

Build richer context automatically. New auto-classification and metadata extraction capabilities identify document types and extract relevant information from AEC content, adding deeper industry-specific understanding to the Context Layer.

Bring AI into the flow of project work. AI actions  can surface relevant next steps directly within Project Center, helping teams use AI without first needing to determine the perfect prompt.

Put task-based agents to work. AEC agents available through Egnyte’s Agent Marketplace provide ready-to-use starting points for specific jobs. Organizations can use them as delivered, configure them for their needs, or combine them to support more complex workflows.

Extend context across systems. The Autodesk Forma Data Management AI Connector makes relevant Autodesk content accessible through Egnyte while also allowing Egnyte context to extend back into Autodesk. AI can work from information across systems instead of treating each application as an isolated silo.

This is just one example of what becomes possible when AI understands not just the content, but the work around it.

Context makes AI more accurate, efficient, and cost-effective

AI only becomes valuable when people can rely on it to help them get real work done. If answers are incomplete, imprecise, or require constant back-and-forth to become useful, adoption quickly breaks down.

That’s why business understanding matters. AI needs to know more than what’s in front of it. It needs enough understanding of the people, projects, relationships, history, and information around the work to give a more accurate, useful answer the first time, or get much closer to one.

The Egnyte Context Layer is our foundation for making that possible.

By giving AI a current understanding of the business it works in, Egnyte can improve accuracy, reduce unnecessary back-and-forth, support more meaningful automation, and make AI more efficient and cost-effective at scale.

Because AI delivers value when people can trust it to understand the work, deliver accurate results, and help move it forward efficiently.
